November Swirls and Twirls


The Living Affected Corporation will launch its Rzn 2 Lv (Reason to Live) prevention intervention campaign December 1, 2013, 1 pm in the foyer of Harry R. Kendall Mission and Science Center on the campus of Philander Smith College. A banquet and award presentation will follow at 1:30 pm in the Nugent Room of the facility. This year's national theme is "Shared Responsibility: Strengthening Results for an AIDS Free Generation."

The organization’s Chief Operating Officer, Cornelius Mabin said, “We are glad to continue our outreach and collaborative partnership with Philander Smith College in our efforts to educate and advocate in the community. Furthermore, we are extremely proud to be launching our Rzn 2 Lv (Reason to Live) campaign that encompasses numerous facets of our prevention focus including imagining as well as targeted prevention messaging trends on social media platforms.

State Health Director, Dr. Nate Smith will be the keynote speaker for the event and a host of other dignitaries and participants have been invited. Dr. Smith has had a stellar career in the public health field as well as dealing globally with marginalize communities.

During 2013 the organization has served over 100 individuals in providing free HIV testing and counseling services in the greater Central Arkansas area. Also included in its scope of work is addressing issues around housing, education, food, treatment and employment through its “Reason to Live” initiative while serving as an enrollment and education access point for the Affordable Care Act.

SPEAKING UR Peace Develops
 
Speaking Ur Peace is an emerging focus group that is designed to allow MSM into a zone to discover and share their experiences moving through "the life." Currently the next meeting is set up for November 14, 6:30 pm at 401 North Maple Street, in the LA Corp offices. The concept is another follow through using prevention and intervention elements of diffusion evidenced based interventions known as "DEBI's." Collectively the group works together to form a better understanding of what prevention messages resonate with this target population and how can intervention programming be created to stymie the increase of HIV infections among young Black MSM's 13-24.
