Staying Focused in the Living and Affected

ME, U and The Affordable Care Act

The Living Affected Corporation applauds all efforts to re-tool HealthCare gov and support President Obama's premise that the scope of this act is "more than a website." Since learning of our award from the Arkansas Insurance Department, subsequent training and licensing, we have been undeterred in delivering outreach education in the LGBTQ community but have been steadfast in our approach to be available to anyone seeking information and or enrollment. Despite the ill-fated launch of the website, our agency immediately pivoted to serving our clients with old school technology "paper applications," coupled with our In-Person Assisting in order to get the job done.

It is our position to support the Department of Health & Human Services recently released report which highlighted finding that nearly half of uninsured single young adults may be eligible for health care coverage for less than $50 per month on the 34 Federally-facilitated and State Partnership Marketplaces.

These findings have become a cornerstone of our outreach at Little Rock's HBCU, Philander Smith College and National Park Community College in Hot Springs, Arkansas. To further build out our partnership and collaboration, we have shared events with Better Community  Developers, InAffordable Housing, and Jefferson Regional Medical Center to fulfill our goals of serving marginalize communities and beyond. Young Invincible On the Move with Video Contest and More

The non-profit group Young Invincibles is a national organization committed to amplifying the voices of young adults, ages 18 to 34, and expanding economic opportunity for our generation. According to their website, they ensures that young adults are represented in today’s most pressing societal debates through cutting-edge policy research and analysis, and innovative campaigns designed to educate, inform and mobilize our generation to change the status quo. Currently the group is running a Healthy Young American video contest that concludes with popular voting that ends on November11.

The group’s goal is to make sure the 18-34 year-old demographic  informed about their healthcare options. Regina Alexander has her insurance through COBRA. She lives nearby and walked there, “I was having difficulty applying online. The workers are very experienced and they got me much further than I was able to do on my own.” As a result, Alexander says she may qualify for a tax credit.

It’s been said that the success of what some call Obamacare lies in whether or not enough young healthy people sign up. That’s the only way to counter the costs from an older and/or sick population, which helps keep premiums down.  Branfield says, “A poll that we did at Young Invincibles found that only 5% of young people don’t want insurance, the rest of us want to be insured and we want to make sure that those young people have the information they need to get that coverage.” Check there site out at www.health.younginvincibles.org
